The Queen of Fives by Alex Hay

SHE PLAYS BY HER OWN RULES.

Few can know the mysterious woman called the Queen of Fives. A talented hustler in silk and furs, she tricks fortunes from unscrupulous men with five signature moves. Masquerading as a wealthy debutante, Quinn Le Blanc has five days to win the hand of the most eligible duke in England – and disappear with the family riches.

BUT HAS SHE MET HER MATCH?

As Quinn targets the corrupt, charismatic Kendals, a stranger watches her from the shadows. Soon a dangerous game begins to play out within the grand drawing rooms and lavish balls of London’s high society. The Kendal family all have secrets of their own, and Quinn may not have the upper hand for long…

A Crime Through Time (Miss Darcy Investigates) by Amelia Blackwell

The gripping debut from Amelia Blackwell, A Crime Through Time is the start of a quirky series where Jane Austen, time travel and crime collide.

Pemberley, 1799. When Miss Georgiana Darcy attempts to escape an unwanted marriage proposal, she isn’t expecting to end up quite so far from home. But after encountering a mysterious object in the nearby woods, she finds herself transported almost two hundred years into the future.

Saltram, 1995. At a grand country house where a film crew are busy shooting the latest Jane Austen adaptation, a terrible crime has been committed. And Miss Darcy – newly arrived, impeccably dressed and thoroughly confused – is the only witness.

It soon becomes clear that, somehow, Georgiana was meant to solve this riddle. With the help of a distractingly handsome Irishman named Quinn and a border collie named Watson, she sets out to stop the killer before they can strike again. But meanwhile, trouble is brewing back at Pemberley and time, it seems, is not on her side . . .

I would particularly hate to live in Victorian England because of the rigidity of the class system, attitudes to the poor, women, morality etc. If I was aware of my 21st century past and stuck there, I’d probably end up as an exhibit in Bedlam!

History was my favourite subject both at school and teacher training college and historical fiction based on real people / events is one of my favourite genres. I honestly don’t think there is any era I would love or hate to visit (including the 9 decades I have experienced) I love my present day life and fully embrace all that modern technology has to offer myself and hubby to live our lives to the full.

Tudor times would be interesting or relive the 1980’s ( my favourite music era)

I would love to visit the Tudor court with all the rich fabrics, jewels and gold embroidery and would hate to visit the English civil war period, very dour and dull.

I would like to visit ( re- visit) the mid 20th century and take my daughter & granddaughter with me to show them how things were when I was growing up.
I’m sure they sometimes think I am making things up.

The roaring 20s. The fun, the fashion, the glamour.
