Set in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales during the 1930s and 1940s, the show and books offer a charming glimpse into rural life in a bygone era, evoking a sense of nostalgia.

A beautiful show in a beautiful setting. Entertaining and even slightly educational as people will learn about animals along the way. James is a great role model who is patient and learns from his mistakes. A bit of innuendo but not much. Great stories for the whole family

I loved the James Herriot books as a child, plus the original film and TV series, but this recent version has been just as wonderfully heartwarming due to the brilliant actors and casting and, of course, the magnificent locations. We have taken several Yorkshire holidays, which visits to Darrowby aka Thirsk (including the World of James of Herriot – site of the actual veterinary practice) and other locations relevant to the storylines. We are due to visit Yorkshire again next month and this book would make perfect holiday reading!

I actually read the original series of books before the very first TV series was made, back in the seventies. As a Northerner myself, I loved the depictions of northern rural life, as well as all the brilliant characters in the stories
