TripFiction’s first movie!

Well, TripFiction’s first movie is ‘in the can‘, as they say.

We were inspired by Carolyn Kirby‘s debut novel ‘The Conviction of Cora Burns‘ from the moment we turned the first page.

To believe in her future, she must uncover her past…

And when TF’s Andrew went #OnLiteraryLocation to Birmingham on a freezing day in January, following in the footsteps of Cora Burns on the canal towpath and by the Victorian prison and lunatic asylum, the movie die was cast.

Author Carolyn and Andrew went location scouting in Birmingham in May, and the Great Escapations production team, led by film-maker Mark Melling, shot the raw film footage with Carolyn over a few days in July. The full chronology of the first TripFiction film is set out in this earlier article. And – drum roll, please – we’re delighted to bring the final edited film to TripFiction’s book-loving audience now.

Carolyn is talking about the book and about Victorian Birmingham at the Birmingham Literary Festival in October, and we’re hoping that the film will even be embedded on the Festival’s own website. Wouldn’t that be good!

TripFiction exists to bring you great books with a strong sense of place. It might be a novel, a memoir or a travelogue, but each one will transport you to the destination you’re interested in, whether that’s ahead of a trip you’re planning, while you’re already there, or just to pique your literary curiosity, from the comfort of your favourite reading place on a dark winter’s night.

We hope this film only increases your interest in escaping with Cora Burns to Birmingham in the late 19th century…
