Sitting on the balcony of an apartment on Via Giuseppe Garabaldi with Aperol Spritz in hand, watching the sun go down over the grand canal. A full masted cruise ship glides by with twinkling lights, along with the vaporetto, taxis and small craft. Then a wander along Riva S. Biasio to find a local restaurant, and ending the day at Cafe Florian and a dance in St Marks Square to the band.
Anywhere on the water
Sinking into the cushions of a gondola as it slowly drifts under the Bridge of Sighs and the cachophony of the city’s tourists fade into the background.
Watching the world go by whilst sipping a latte in St. Mark’s Square…

Just love wandering along the canals and over the bridges, soaking up the atmosphere.
On a gondola looking at the beautiful architecture waving at the crowds sounds run!
It’s a long time since I have been to Venice and one thing I remember most vividly is seeing the Bridge of Sighs and the stories of the prisoners crossing to their deaths, gruesome though it may be! I would love to see it all again
It would have to be sipping fizz in the Margaret Duchamp bar!!
It’s just so interesting wandering along the canals on foot and over the little bridges, a feast for the senses.

I was once lucky enough to take a boat trip around Venice’s islands. One day I’d love to have the time to stop and explore them!

I’d definitely explore the city by foot and by gondola. I’d go find a nice cafe/bar before making plans to explore the city further. I’d love to go to St Mark’s Basilica but it all depends on the length of my trip. I like to feel the atmosphere first, then book a trip to return.
Sitting on the steps of my favourite church, Santa Maria della Salute, in glorious sunshine looking out towards St Mark’s Square and all the boats on the canal just in front of me with an ice cold class of Limon Soda!

Venice has a very much on my bucket list. Such an amazing place. So many choices it’s hard to pick just one favourite. I would love to visit Doge Palace, take a Gondola trip, the bridge of sighs to name my top 3.
I’ve never been so a gondola ride would be lovely to help me get my bearings.
The island of Torcello for me – what a tranquil dream
I was meant to be in Venice for my honeymoon in March, sadly it was cancelled but I can’t wait to return. There is a little bridge in Dorsoduro, you reach it by walking at the back of the Guggenheim towards Santa Maria Della Salute. When I crossed it and looked back I noticed a room with two picture windows, one looking towards the Basilica and the lagoon and the other over the Grand Canal. I imagine myself in that room sometimes, laid on the bed with the water light dancing on the ceiling in the morning. Or at night seeing lamps and boat lights reflecting off the Grand Canal. Listening to boats creaking and the sound of water as the city quiets. No one would know I was there, but I would know the whole of Venice is there waiting for me.
Looking at the stunning views from the top of Scala Contarini del Bovolo
I would love to visit The Bridge of Sighs which is such a lovely bridge with great history.
The best place to be in Venice is sitting on the sun in the garden of the Guggenheim just watching the life on the Grand Canal. There will something for everyone to see whether you’re an afficianado or a newbie to the delights of La Serenissima.
Sat outside of a bar at a little table for two under the bluest of skies. Relaxing with a lovely cold beer and a small bowl of wonderfully salty savoury snacks watching the Cataraman ferries and enjoying the Venetian heat.
I should love to watch the passing of light over the marble jewelbox of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Cannaregio.

I would love to return to The Peggy Guggenheim Museum and see the wonderful collection of paintings. I have only been once but it was almost my last holiday with my husband and was so memorable. We were only in Venice for a few days as we were on a railway tour of Italy but Venice was my favourite city.
I would like to view Venice from my own personal gondola with a gondolian chauffeur
I would love to see Saint Mark’s Basilica ❤️
What fabulous prizes – all of which are beautiful evocations of one of my favorite cities. Thanks to all the generous sponsors! To me Venice is at her most stunning at night and any one of the sestiere becomes utterly magical, so much so that it is impossible to pick a favorite. Hoping to return al più presto possibile.
I’m imagining with pleasure the approach across the lagoon, taking in the sights, as I look forward to spending time in Venice having made the trip over from Pula.
Walking through the streets of Amalfi.

I’d love to be on the Ponte di Rialto, mooching around the shops and taking in the view of the grand canal.
Watching an opera in Teatro La Fenice, having arrived there by vaporetto via the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark.
My dearest wish at the moment is to be at an opera performance in Teatro La Fenice on Campo San Fantin having arrived there by vaporetto via the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark. I would arrive about 45 minutes early to enjoy the experience and to people watch – always a treat at an Italian opera venue. Maybe my ticket would be for a Premiere, in which case I would be dressed in the (almost) obligatory black dress and pearls, my outdoor wear having been placed in the (free) cloakroom on the premises (ROH please note).
On one of the islands like Murano and Burano.
My favourite memory about Venice is taking a boat from Lido very early in the morning, watching the city appear out of the haze and arriving in St. Mark’s Square, before any of the shops or even cafés were open and exploring Venice without any fellow tourists around.
Strolling through St Marks at dawn 🙂

It’s called the ‘most beautiful bookshop in the world’
I’d love to be getting on one of the water taxis on the grand canal and heading over to the nearby islands of Murano with its colourful painted houses and Burano to admire all the beautiful glass.
I would love to watch the people passing bay have a venetian coffee in St Marks Square
Coffee and cake in an outdoor cafe watching the world go by.
I’ve always hoped to walk through the Bridge of Sighs in Venice.
At the rooftop terrace of Ca Giustinian (the Biennale’s headquarters on the Canal Grande). Salute!
Walking along the waterfront near the bridge of sighs – we bought a painting as a reminder – and then find a cafe for gelato – if only I could afford St Marks square
Visiting the haunts my parents went to on their honeymoon. They are now divorced. He should have paid for that gondola trip in 1979.
It would have to be outside a restaurant near Rialto Bridge, watching the the comings and going and the gondolas go by.
I’d love to be perusing the collection in the Gallerie dell’Accademia. Some of the most amazing paintings are there!
Panini e Vini da Babbo without a doubt.
We loved Venice, it was so busy, in the evening, we would watch the boats going along the waterways, and loved our gondola ride. Also enjoyed the island tours and the glassmaking is amazing, it would be lovely to have a piece of Murano glass.

Watching the world pass me by whilst relaxing in a gondola, bliss!
My lovely family took me to Venice for my 50th birthday last year. A highlight of the trip was sitting in a little side street cafe where the elderly chef made bellinis from fresh peaches in front of us. I would go back to Venice in a heartbeat! I read Donna Leon’s Death at La Fenice while there (I love reading books set in places where I’m on holiday!)
I’d love to enjoy delicious cicchetti and prosecco in an atmospheric bacaro on a quiet local campo, and watch the world go by.

On a Gondola on the Grand Canal. It’s where hubby proposed to me on my 30th birthday. I remember the tourist on all the other Gondola’s cheering and some even taking photos when he went down on one knee. Venice holds lots of special memories!
In St Marks Square – many years since I was last there
Spending a leisurely afternoon in the art gallery, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection
I’d love to just stand in St Marks Square and take in my surroundings. Last time I was there, we were up to our knees in water due to the acqua alta which detracted somewhat from the experience. I’d love to try again.
Looking at the Bridge of Sighs
Looking at the Bridge of Sighs
The bookstore Libreria Acqua Alta, where they use boats instead of bookshelves.
Watching the crowds from the comfort of a gondola is my cup of tea.
I’d like to be in the blush coloured, tree shadowed courtyard of the Pizzeria Alla Stregha, where perhaps the witches painted on the walls will work some of their magic. I’d have a huge sharing seafood platter and a chilled glass of local white wine in front of me.

I would love to be in Venice again, that light, those gorgeous buildings and the food, the amazing food. I’d love to be sat in a campo sipping a bellini, and waiting for some delicious fresh food to be delivered in the evening sunshine. This time of autumn was just perfect the last time I was there.
Anywhere in that beautiful city but the old decaying canal-side mansion in which a red-coated dwarf wielding a cleaver is ready to dispatch middle-aged men grieving for drowned daughters.
