Short novel set in MANHATTAN
El Conejo Rides Again
Love, romance, and movie stars. A stuntwoman and a masked bandit. A wealthy rancher stealing land for crooked developers. An ineffectual sheriff, a frustrated ranch foreman, a war veteran in a wheelchair, estranged father and daughter, and a wise uncle, in a forgotten corner of New Mexico.
Della Russell, stunt double for megastar Samantha Silverstone, learns that her estranged father is in a nearby hospital, where she grew up.
Lionel, a prize longhorn stolen on arrival by a long-dormant El Conejo, the Rabbit. A hero to some, a scourge to others. The masked man saved young Della from drowning. In exchange, she told him that her father, the Sheriff, was coming with a posse. Her mother moves away with her, the next day.
The rancher wants his bull back. Land developers want title to the property with water rights from a rancher who has no intention of selling. The rancher’s son is framed for murder. P.I. Jesse Catalano is hired to clear him. Calling on his uncle, the diminutive Mayor Juan, who sees all from his perch to catch an alien sighting.
Della’s father is kidnapped as leverage to find the movie star. The son of the rancher is in jail, and the Sheriff finds love. Culminating in a daring rescue by a masked man and his long-lost love. Helped a little by a grumpy bull too long neglected.
