A romcom set in COPENHAGEN at Christmas
11th November 2025
A Copenhagen Snowmance by Pernille Hughes, a romcom set in Copenhagen.
Anna Lundholm has flown over for a day trip to Copenhagen, her erstwhile family home. She is there just for a day to pick up and scatter the ashes of the much-loved family cat.
As she leaves the airport, her first thought is whether she should have a sausage for which the city is known, but by chance a certain Jamie MacDonald crosses her path and clumsily she is jostled and manages to smear some of the sausage’s condiments and sauces over his coat. He scowls and departs and she is off into town to the veterinary clinic.
When she gets back to the airport – having failed to scatter the cat’s ashes – the airport is closed due to the burgeoning snowfall and she is beside herself wondering where she can find a bed for the night.
Fortuitously there is a family property – let out at the moment – but there is a room that she locked up when she left the city in a hurry after her awful break-up with Carl. That is her only option, but guess who is now renting her house!
After a frosty and staccato start, she is invited in and they get acquainted and before she can blink, they are off to watch the spectacle of the annual Santa Lucia Parade (all twinkling lights on the kayaks parading on the water on 13th December). And then Anna spots her ex, which prompts her to lunge for a staged kiss with Jamie, and that is somehow captured for posterity on celluloid and the photo goes viral, dubbed in the local paper as a beautiful snowmance kiss, with a wonderful Tivoli backdrop. After that, things will go one of two ways for Anna and Jamie….
The author clearly knows the city very well and it comes through loud and clear. There are visits to Tivoli (of course!), to Nyhavn and other areas, a stop at the oldest cafe in Copenhagen, Conditori La Glace and plenty of yuletide fun and food to whet the appetite.
A delightfully upbeat romcom, full of Winter wonder within an upbeat story.
If you enjoy this novel, then bag a copy of last year’s hit story penned by Karen Swan and set in Copenhagen: All I Want for Christmas, where two unlikely people pair up and an outing to the Santa Lucia Parade also delightfully features.
