A beautifully crafted book, with an elegant style. Paul Burgess lives a quiet bachelor life in London. To avoid an invitation to spend Christmas with his cousin’s widow, Helena, he decides on a trip to Venice. Here, at age 72, he meet Vicky, much younger than him, who finds herself at a crossroads in her life.
Upon his return to London, his former girlfriend comes back into his life. The influence of these two women upon Paul cause him to re-evaluate his to all intents and purposes “lonely” life, which up until now has suited him. He begins to acknowledge his need to share his life with someone and this spurs him into making huge change.

Lead Review

This I believe his her 24th novel? Growing old gracefully is handled in a subliminal and real way. She really depicts the varying shades of loneliness and introspection.
