A Literary Walking Tour through Wendy Darling’s LONDON
Enemies to lovers romance set around PARIS and LONDON
2nd July 2026
Her Advantage by Hannah Bicknell, enemies to lovers romance set around PARIS and LONDON – at ROLAND-GAROS and WIMBLEDON.
This is the first in the Game, Set, Match series.
The chapters alternate between Leo (Leonora James) and George Hampden, an extremely bad tempered and rude superstar tennis player.
She works for an agency and has unexpectedly been assigned by her company, Mayfair Lifestyle, to look after him. He won’t speak, he is well known for his ‘steely control’, he only texts and he seemingly really knows how to make life hard for those in his entourage.
It transpires early on that they have a mutual tennis coach in common, who just happens to be George’s friend from childhood…
On the way to Paris at St Pancras there is a thawing, as he upgrades her ticket, which includes a leisurely sojourn in the Premier Lounge, where, of course, they bump into each other. It is no longer Mr Hampden but George and then when there is no room at the Ritz for Leo and George suggests she take the second bedroom of his suite…. But can she get behind his seemingly arrogant facade, which is proving to be quite irksome? Well, given the Amazon blurb is a spoiler, I might as well share it with you here: This is “A Must-Read Spicy Enemies-To-Lovers Tennis Romance“, so there you have it. No ‘will they, they won’t they’.
There are trips to the restaurant Aux Prés and to Tennis de la Cavalerie (often referred to as the most beautiful tennis court in the world) in the 15th, where he invites Leo for a game (I doubt, really, whether a tennis pro would find time for a quick back and forth with a good amateur during one of the biggest annual tournaments, but, hey, this is fiction). And after Paris it’s back for Wimbledon fortnight.
This is a story of two people who are strongly attracted to each other, hampered on occasions by the background dynamics of those around them, with plenty of tennis and sex thrown in. It’s nicely written and engaging.
