GIVEAWAY! – a copy of “Three Women” by Lisa Taddeo plus a Marco Polo journal
28th June 2020
WIN a copy of “Three Women” by Lisa Taddeo PLUS a Marco Polo journal!
Three Women by Lisa Taddeo is the study of the lives of three women in Rhode Island, North Dakota and Indiana.
All Lina wanted was to be desired. How did she end up in a marriage with two children and a husband who wouldn’t touch her?
All Maggie wanted was to be understood. How did she end up in a relationship with her teacher and then in court, a hated pariah in her small town?
All Sloane wanted was to be admired. How did she end up a sexual object of men, including her husband, who liked to watch her have sex with other men and women?
Three Women is a record of unmet needs, unspoken thoughts, disappointments, hopes and unrelenting obsessions.

If you are comfortable with scenes of a sexual nature – and reading this will not make you a prurient voyeur – then I think it is a compelling read. In a Guardian interview 28.2.20, author Marian Keyes says “At the moment, I’m giving every woman I’ve ever met Three Women by Lisa Taddeo. To read women articulating their sexual desire in such an honest, carnal way is refreshing and empowering”.

Just My Luck by Adele Parks If you think doing the lottery with friends then winning will change your life forever, then you have to read & buy Just My Luck.
Oooo I’d have to say The Good Doctor of Warsaw by Elisabeth Gifford. A take on the Holocaust that I’d never seen before and which moved me to tears
I would give everyone the fantastic The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin.
Excellent Women by Barbara Pym. A novel where almost nothing happens, but everything happens.
I’d give Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, my favourite book since 1993 and the one I’ve re-read the most times.
Any novel by Joy Ellis.
I would give everyone a copy of The Cat and the City a wonderful book set in Tokyo.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, such a wonderful story teller.
Three Women draw:
I would pass round The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes to every woman I know. It gives a real insight into the importance of education for all.
I would give everyone a copy of The house without windows by Barbara Newhall Follett as it is simply beautiful
I would give Rebecca. That’s a book that just never gets old.
That’s a difficult question to answer but I would say “The Talented Mr. Ripley” by Patricia Highsmith as I like crime fiction and it’s a classic.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, because I know if they don’t love it we can’t be friends.

Great book for any woman
I would give the book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. The most thought provoking novel I’ve ever read. I recommend it to everyone and advise having a large box of tissues nearby and to count their blessings.
I’ve recently read Relish – Prue Leith – I hadn’t realised what an interesting life she has led. I really enjoyed reading it.
Mitch Albon’s The Five People You Meet In Heaven
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini x
” The Little Paris Bookshop” by Nina George is a book I discovered and read during lockdown. I have already lent my copy to my son and granddaughter . She has just graduated with a first in creative writing so should appreciate the magic! I have talked about it to everyone I have spoken to recently on the phone and will select Nina George as an author to read in my book group when we meet again.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, because the true nature of Christmas is often forgotten and it’s such a heartwarming story.
I always recommend The Kite Runner to everyone who loves to read.
‘Humans’, by Matt Haig. A perceptive, funny and heart-warming book.
Oh my goodness, so many wonderful books out there, where would you start?
But, as I am reading a book of his at the moment, & because I often recommend it, I would say Bryce Courtenay’s The Power of One.
A semi-autobiographical account of Courtenay’s tough childhood growing up in South Africa & how he got through with support from his black boxing coach, it is so inspirational!
I would give The Fire Sermon Trilogy by Francesca Haig.
The book I would give to every woman I know is “In At The Deep End“ by Kate Davies. It would demystify lesbian relationships and what exactly happens in (and out) of the bedroom.
Mornings in Jenin by Susan Abulhawa – not only does it tell the Palestinian story, it is a story of family, love and friendship.
The beekeeper of Aleppo – everyone should read it.
The book I’d give everyone I know? Shirley Jackson – We Have Always Lived in the castle. Funny, moving, beautifully written.
